UM-Flint's campus is situated on 76 acres (51 south of the Flint River and 25 north) in the heart of downtown Flint. Eight academic buildings with a combined size of 850,000 square feet blend the latest technologies with traditional university amenities. Major buildings on campus include the Frances Thompson Library, the theater, and skywalks connect most campus buildings, making travel between buildings more accessible for the physically challenged. In fall 2008, a 310-bed residential hall opened on campus, changing the University from a commuter campus to a residential one.
